10 Great Apologetics Resources

Updated: Nov 16, 2021

If you’re interested in Christian apologetics, you can find countless resources that will give you in-depth information about every area of apologetics and theology imaginable—from radiometric dating and fossils to Biblical contradictions to the fine points of Hebrew and Greek syntax.

Unfortunately, not every so-called Christian apologetics resource contains reliable information based on the truth of God’s Word. Some professing Christians subtly compromise with naturalistic evolutionary teachings, while others outright deny crucial Biblical truths. While these materials may still contain valuable insights, it can be difficult to sort out truth from error.

For this reason, I’ve compiled a list of ten of my favorite apologetics books and other resources. Please keep in mind that the Bible is the only infallible Book in the world. Therefore, the following resources may contain unintentional human error. However, the authors stand on the authority of the Bible to the best of their ability, which is why I’ve included their works on this list.

I've also included links to buy each of these books online. With that said, let’s begin.

1) I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist by Norman Geisler and Frank Turek

This is one of the best apologetics books I have ever read. To show why Christianity is true, the authors proceed step-by-step through a 12-point argument, beginning with, “Truth about reality is knowable,” and ending with, “The Bible is the Word of God.”

Along the way, diverse topics are addressed, including the beginning of the universe, the original of life, design in nature, the fine-tuning of natural laws, moral absolutes, miracles, the historicity of the New Testament, the identity of Jesus, and the validity of Jesus’ claims. If you only read one book out of this list, I recommend this one. It’s a very readable, “all-in-one” toolkit for defending the faith.

(Please note, the authors use the Big Bang as evidence for the existence of God. They also state that the age of the universe is a side issue. These are both positions I disagree with. However, the rest of the book is extremely fascinating and persuasive.)

2) The Ultimate Proof of Creation by Dr. Jason Lisle

In this unique book, Dr. Lisle goes into detail about the transcendental argument (“ultimate proof”) for the existence of God. In brief, this argument states that only the Biblical God can account for laws of logic, moral absolutes, and uniformity in nature. (Obviously, this argument is much more complex than the simplified version stated here.)

This book gives thorough examples of the “ultimate proof,” details how to reason with critics and defend the Christian faith, and explains how to spot common logical fallacies in opposing arguments. It concludes with two “answering the critics” sections, which contain Dr. Lisle’s responses to actual emails challenging his arguments.

The Ultimate Proof of Creation is a very well-written and easy-to-understand book. Even those who aren’t well-versed in logic will learn something from it.

3) The New Answers Books 1-4, edited by Ken Ham

These Answers in Genesis resources are invaluable for every Christian’s library. Each book covers over 25 questions relating to topics such as dinosaurs, radiometric dating, Noah’s Ark, Adam and Eve, DNA and information science, evolution, distant starlight, and more.

If you’re looking for solid, biblically-based answers to the most common questions about the faith, here’s the place to find them!

4) The Answers Book 4 Teens, Volumes 1-2, by Bodie Hodge, Tommy Mitchell, and Ken Ham

These two books are spin-offs of The New Answers Books. Geared toward a teenage audience, these resources discuss tough questions such as, “How do we know God exists?”, “Why would God kill the whole world with a flood?”, “Why did God punish the whole world for one man’s sin?”, “Can mutations drive evolution?”, “What about abortion?”, and “Doesn’t the Bible support slavery?” The writing is clear, and the design of the books is visually appealing.

5) The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel

This book was such a bestseller that it spawned a movie of the same title. Retracing his own journey from skepticism to faith, retired journalist Lee Strobel interviews a dozen experts about various topics that pertain to Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. They touch on topics such as the manuscript and archaeological evidence for the New Testament, Jesus’ claims about Himself, Jesus’ death on the Cross, and the testimonies about His resurrection.

The Case for Christ is written in a readable dialogue format, and Strobel’s conversations with the interviewees keep the pace lively and entertaining.

6) How Do We Know the Bible is True? Volumes 1-2, edited by Ken Ham and Bodie Hodge

Similar to The New Answers Books, these two books discuss dozens of questions pertaining specifically to the reliability of the Bible. They address issues of translation, ancient manuscripts, the Shroud of Turin, Noah’s Ark, the Reformation, the historicity of Adam and Eve, and more.

Written in an understandable format, these two books will give any Christian more insight on how to defend his or her faith.

7) The Popular Encyclopedia of Apologetics, edited by Ed Hindson and Ergun Caner

For those who want to go even deeper into apologetics, this comprehensive volume contains over 170 brief essays written by experts about various apologetics topics—everything from Arianism to Zoroastrianism.

Each essay is laid out in an easy-to-follow point-by-point format. Virtually every topic pertaining to Christian apologetics is touched on—no matter how common or obscure. Whether you’re interested in the different types of apologetics or looking to understand the idea of Socinianism, this resource is a must-have for serious students of apologetics.

In February 2014, Bill Nye “the Science Guy” debated Answers in Genesis founder Ken Ham at the Creation Museum. The topic of their debate was, “Is creation a viable model of origins in today’s modern scientific era?” Each man gave a 30-minute illustrated presentation about his side. Rebuttals and a question-and-answer session followed. To date, over 15 million people have watched the debate recording.

The DVD includes the full 151-minute debate plus 40 minutes of an after-debate conversation with Ken Ham and Answers in Genesis geneticist Georgia Purdom.

For readers who wish to dig deeper, the book Inside the Nye-Ham Debate contains a further analysis of the points made in the debate. This book also includes a complete transcript of the debate.

This brief book contains a valuable overview of arguments against atheism and for Christianity, as well as an introduction to Jesus’ claims and evidence for the reliability of the New Testament.

Though short, it’s written in layman’s terms and contains some valuable information worth extra investigation.

10) The Pocket Guides Series by various authors

These pocket-size books, available in one big set from the Answers in Genesis website, touch on a variety of relevant topics. Some topics in this 20-book set include the human body, UFOs, Charles Darwin, evidences for a young earth, Satan and the serpent, social issues, logic and faith, Noah’s Ark, ape-men, and dinosaurs.

Short, small, and easy-to-read, the Pocket Guides provide quick, digestible information for readers in a hurry.

Bonus: Old-Earth Creationism On Trial by Tim Chaffey and Jason Lisle

Written in the form of a court trial, this easy-to-read book dismantles the case against old-earth creationism (the belief that God created the universe billions of years ago but did not use evolution).

Both Scriptural and scientific arguments are presented and addressed. This book shows convincingly that the young-earth interpretation of Genesis is exegetically and scientifically supported.

Well, there you have it—some of my favorite apologetics resources. I hope they help you learn how to better understand and defend your faith. If you check one of them out, feel free to comment below and tell me what you thought of it. Also, if you have a favorite apologetics book that I didn’t mention here, let me know in the comments!

"In fact, in light of the evidence, you ought to have a lot more doubts about atheism and every other non-Christian belief system. They are not reasonable. Christianity is. So start doubting your doubts and accept Christ. It takes too much faith to believe anything else!"
