Hi! Good to see you here! This is probably going to be more of a chatty post than an apologetics post.
As a teen moving into the adult world, I've discovered that it can be pretty hard to find your footing. Now, I'm homeschooled and Christian-raised, but I've seen how textbooks will suggest that evolution is not just a theory, but a proven fact. Videos, movies, school programs - they're all based on an evolutionary viewpoint. It's subtle at times, but it's there.
Have you ever read the factoids on the side of a U-Haul moving truck? Answers in Genesis speaker Dr. Tommy Mitchell told a story about when he moved to start working with the ministry full-time. He got a U-Haul truck and realized it had a factoid about a creature that lived "millions of years ago" on the side. I laughed with him, but he made his point. My co-writer/editor Jordyn (TimeTravelTeam) had the same experience when she moved houses.
The bottom line is, mainstream culture claims that evolution is true and there is no God, and they spread it in any way they can. This can make it very hard for Christian parents to raise their children with an unwavering faith. In fact, a large part of Generation Z is growing up believing that there is no God.
Answers in Genesis has a book, Already Gone, which discusses how more and more young people are abandoning the church after attending church for at least part of their lives. I have not read the book myself, but I have seen the numbers from it, and it scares me.
I don't want my fellow teens to be unprepared for the assault of the world. Instead, I want to help my peers be prepared to face the attacks of the enemy upon the foundations of their faith.
Now I want to ask you all a question. If you are doubting everything you were raised in, why? What have you learned on your own, been taught in school, or suffered in your life, that makes you question the existence of God and the truth of the Bible?
Please tell me in the comments below. I want to know what you all are struggling with because maybe... just maybe... I've been there, too.
The quote at the end of the article was almost me. I was almost that atheist. I don't want it to become you.
Blessings in Christ,
Alexa
Christian: "Why do you hate God?"
Atheist: "Because He took everything away from me. I hate God!"
Christian: "How can you hate someone, if they don't exist?"
